Patrol

The Patrol Division has the primary responsibility of responding to calls for service from our residents and visitors. Within the Patrol Division there are several specialty units. The Traffic Unit provides traffic control and enforcement measures in an effort to reduce traffic accident related injuries. The Community Issues Response Team (CIRT) was instituted to provide a wide variety of community related services to the citizens of St. Augustine. The CIRT unit's goal is to partner with members of our community and jointly try to solve problems in our neighborhoods. The CIRT unit often deals with what are considered "non-traditional" police problems, i.e. residences and businesses that create a nuisance for neighbors. These units, with their flexible work hours, can be assigned to special problem areas within the City of St. Augustine. Members of the CIRT unit are usually assigned to bicycle patrol and primarily assigned to patrol the historical areas of downtown and Lincolnville. Some members of the Patrol Division serve on the department's Community Service Unit (CSU) as an additional duty. The CSU unit is the department's quick reaction force and is trained in responding to dynamic and dangerous incidents i.e. barricaded suspect.
