Parking in Downtown St. Augustine

Founded in 1565, the City of St. Augustine town plan was originally laid out in the late sixteenth century for foot traffic, for walking.  That's the reason the streets are narrow, many one way, with many streets having overhanging balconies.

Due to the narrow streets, parking in downtown St. Augustine has always been at a premium. In an effort to try to resolve the parking situation, the city completed construction of a 1,200 space Historic District Parking Facility as well as installed new parking meters and parking pay stations. These two changes were made based on the Seven Point Parking and Traffic Master Plan.

The city provides staff in the Parking Division to assist residents, businesses and visitors with their parking needs.
