The Department of Public Works performs many important services for both residents, businesses and visitors of the City of St. Augustine with one of the main services being that of solid waste removal.
A high level of solid waste removal is provided for residents with twice weekly pickup of trash, and one day a week for yard debris and recyclables.
Solid waste pickup services is also performed throughout the downtown public area and all locations of standard solid waste containers.
Businesses can receive a waste audit with disposal efforts geared toward accommodating the type of commercial business.
The Division will also make presentations to businesses and organizations to promote recycling and waste reduction practices.
The City of St. Augustine, Solid Waste Division provides twice a week collection of household garbage and once a week collection of yard waste and recycling. Large items can be placed curbside for collection on scheduled days of service. Oversized brush and yard waste piles may be placed at the curb as well, although additional charges may occur for the collection.
Residents are asked to use the city provided trash and recycling containers. All items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 7:00 p.m. the night before collection, but before 6:30 a.m. the day of collection. Containers should be removed from the curb by 7:00 p.m. the day of collection.

Yard Waste can be placed at the curb on Wednesday for a Wednesday pick-up.
Grass clippings and leaves can be placed in bags or trash cans (not to exceed 50 pounds). Do not use your city container for yard waste disposal. Brush must be cut in 4-foot lengths and placed neatly at the curb for collection. Brush piles in excess of 4 yards may be collected at an additional charge to the resident.
Contractors (lawn & tree services) are required to haul all generated yard waste or brush debris from the resident's property. You can call the office of solid waste 825.1049 for a site visit and estimate pertaining to oversized brush piles.
The Solid Waste Division does not collect building materials. For this type of collection, the city offers two(2) and four(4) yard dumpster. The fee for this service is $52.00 per dump or the homeowner must remove materials at their cost.
The city offers recycling to all residential properties through either the curbside collection process or by using the recycling drop-off located at Solid Waste offices, 601 Riberia Street.

Household Hazardous Collection
Household hazardous waste is collected by St. Johns County. The list of items include liquid paints, toxic or flammable items, pool chemicals and auto batteries. Paints, chemicals/solvents and electronic should be delivered the St. Johns County Transfer Station. The office number hours of collection and further information is 827.6980.
Commercial businesses are provided with either dumpster or cart service. The business location and description/characteristics determine the type of service that will be provided. Collection schedules are tailored to meet the needs of the customer.
The Division has various size dumpsters (2, 4, 6, and 8 yard) and 96-gallon carts available for garbage collection.
The Division of Solid Waste can also provide businesses with a waste audit and review of waste handling practices. Staff will review your present waste handling practices and may recommend recycling and reduction options.

The Division provides 30-yard roll–off dumpsters for clean up of construction projects. Call 825.1049 for pull rates and location assessments for estimate of costs.
The city offers businesses the option of a dumpster for cardboard recycling at their location for a flat fee. This service depends on the characteristics of location due to size of the service vehicle needed.
The Division also has a recycling drop off center for businesses at the Solid Waste Division's headquarters at 601 Riberia Street.
To According to City Code, all contractors performing services related to tree removal or trimming, landscaping, construction including roofing, are required to remove all debris. Prior notice to the Solid Waste Division must be made 48 hours before requesting removal of debris by the city. Click here to view and print out the work order.
