Pilot program begins on December 1
Even though the City of St. Augustine’s initial resident parking decal program will not begin until December 1, decals are available now from the St. Augustine Police Department. The program will require vehicles parking in designated areas to have a resident decal.
Decals may be purchased at the Police Department Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. To obtain a permit, a resident will need to have the vehicle with them at the time as well as a show a valid driver’s license, the car’s registration and proof of residence such as a utility bill that includes the person’s name and address.
Guest passes are also available. For that purchase the resident and the guest must go to the Police Department with the vehicle to be permitted, its registration and the guest’s license.
A resident’s pass is $30 and is valid for one calendar year. Permits for guests of residents are also available for $10 and are valid for one week.
The initial restricted area will encompass 23 spaces along the west side of Avenida Menendez between Bridge Street and St. Francis Street. Only vehicles displaying a resident parking decal will be allowed to use those spaces between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm. The restricted area will be clearly marked with street signs. Permits are available to any city resident.
Based on the results of this pilot program, resident only parking areas may be extended into other residential neighborhoods. The program of designating certain areas as resident only parking has been well studied by city staff, including programs currently in place in other cities.
