A 13 year veteran of the City’s Finance Department has been named as the City of St. Augustine’s 2002 Employee of the Year.
Sharon Langford, Customer Service Supervisor for the City, received the annual award from City Manager William Harriss during a recent ceremony.
Long recognized for her superlative ability to work with the public, Sharon heads up a team of customer service representatives that has as much contact with members of the public in a single day as most offices have in a week.
Not only is the office responsible for establishing both commercial and residential utility accounts, but also distributes all of the monthly invoices and receives all the payments for the more than 9,000 accounts. In addition, the office issues drivers-for-hire licenses, administers the testing and licenses for tour guides, issues occupational licenses and manages all aspects of the City’s parking enforcement.
Although born in England, Sharon considers St. Augustine her hometown, being brought up, as she says, as a "military brat." A graduate of both James Madison University, where she received a Bachelors of Arts Degree and Old Dominion University with a Masters of Arts Degree, Sharon worked for a decade at Old Dominion first as a police officer and then as Parking Manager before coming to St. Augustine.
Sharon’s sense of service extends far beyond her work with the City demonstrated by her many volunteer activities including those with the Boy Scouts of America and Otis Mason Elementary where she is active in the PTA and serves as a member of the School Advisory Committee.
Congratulations to Sharon Langford, the City of St. Augustine’s Employee of the Year.
