Nancy Brilliant, an administrative secretary in the Planning and Building Department, has been named the City of St. Augustine’s 2004 Employee of the Year.
Even though Nancy has been working with the city for just under three-and-a-half years, she has proven herself to be a tremendous asset to the work of this busy office, in particular in her support role for the very important Code Enforcement, Adjustments and Appeals Board (CEAAB).
In making the nomination, Mark Knight, Director of Planning and Building and Nancy’s supervisor, signaled out Nancy’s contributions in the development of resource and training materials for new CEAAB members and the development of a tracking and report system for easy access of all records. Knight also pointed out that through a system instituted by Nancy for the collection of outstanding liens, the Planning and Building Department successfully collected over $20,000 in outstanding liens in the past year.
Among Nancy’s many other duties, she is responsible for the creation and maintenance of reports summarizing outstanding liens, flood control variances, and code enforcement actions, she schedules building inspections, and she assists the public with general information regarding building permits, business licenses, citizen board agenda/requirements, and code enforcement complaints.
Prior to moving to St. Augustine, Nancy enjoyed a successful career in graphic design and advertising, including having owned and operated Brilliant Graphics in Swansea, Massachusetts where she designed and produced high quality catalogs, newsletters, forms, and promotional advertising for clients ranging from automotive parts manufacturers to fine jewelry producers.
A native of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, Nancy and her husband Carl, who is employed by the city as a carpenter, moved to St. Augustine in April of 2001. Both consider St. Augustine their adopted "hometown paradise," and enjoy exploring the region on their Harley-Davidson at every opportunity.
Congratulations to Nancy Brilliant, the City of St. Augustine’s Employee of the Year.
