Employee of the year, Barbara Muench, is shown with immediate supervisor, Comptroller of the City of St. Augustine, Mark Litzinger.
An employee of the city for four years, Barbara Muench, the administrative support coordinator for the Department of Finance, Budget and Management, was recently named City of St. Augustine 2006 Employee of the Year. City Manager Bill Harriss made the presentation.
In nominating her for the annual award, Mark Litzinger, City Comptroller and Barbara’s immediate supervisor, made note of her self discipline and the high standards she places on her work quality. Litzinger also pointed out a characteristic Barbara’s colleagues would echo: “She treats fellow employees, managers, and the public with respect, with efficiency and professionalism evident in her daily work.”
A native of New Jersey, Barbara has called Florida home for over a decade. As a community volunteer at Flagler Hospital, she contributes time and talent to help others, especially by spending time with families who are anxious and stressed over loved ones’ hospitalization. During the busy 2004 hurricane season, Barbara was instrumental in setting up a call center at the St. Augustine Fire Department which coordinated city services in response to storm related emergencies.
“Humbled, I’m humbled, and consider it an honor from the city to receive the award,” said Barbara, adding she was excited for her daughter, Diana, who lives in California, to know of her award from the city.
The recipient of the Employee of the Year Award receives a commemorative plaque, a reserved parking space for one year, and a retail gift certificate.
Barbara says her main reason for moving to Florida, and specifically St. Augustine, is the “quality of life is better here.” In her time at the city, she has done her part to improve the quality of life for many others, both those she works with and others in the community around her.
Congratulations to Barbara Muench, The City of St. Augustine’s 2006 Employee of the Year.
