Carl Masters, 2007 City of St. Augustine Employee of the Year
Carl Masters, Supervisor, Fleet Operations Division, has been named the 2007 City of St. Augustine Employee of the Year.
A St. Augustine native of proud Menorcan heritage, Carl started his employment with the city in January 1997 as an Automotive Mechanic II, subsequently being promoted to Assistant Supervisor of Fleet Operations and in June 2005 was named the division’s supervisor.
Carl’s responsibilities include the coordination of preventive maintenance and repairs of the city’s nearly 300 pieces of motorized equipment, including every car and truck as well as boats, generators, backhoes, lawnmowers and tractors. In addition, Carl oversees of regular safety inspections of all equipment and develops specifications for equipment purchases.
As supervisor, Carl takes training seriously. He established a continuous training program for all the division’s mechanics and has himself earned and maintained his certification as a Third Party Commercial Driver License Tester. This certification allows Carl to perform testing for employees who are required to possess a Commercial Driver License. In addition Carl has achieved professional certifications from Bradford-Union Area Vo-Tech Center, Central Florida Community College and the University of North Florida’s Florida Institute of Government.
“Carl Masters is a dedicated, respected and loyal employee,” wrote Jim Piggott, Director of General Services who nominated Carl for the award, noting his sound judgment, his willingness to go out of his way to help, and his constant reliability.
Growing up in St. Augustine and St. Johns County, Carl was raised hunting and fishing and spent much time on his family’s cattle ranch. His favorite hobby today is offshore fishing where he spends much of his free time with his son, River. Both Carl and his wife Erin devote time to the Boy Scouts where Erin is a scout leader and River an active member.
The City of St. Augustine is proud to congratulate Carl Masters on his being named the 2007 Employee of the Year.
