St. Augustine's

450th Commemoration Commission

The Office of the 450th Commemoration Commission manages the planning and implementation of the three-year event which begins with the 500th anniversary of the landing of Juan Ponce de Leon in 2013 and ends with the 450th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles in 2015. The linear event will be bracketed by celebrations in 2012 commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Spanish constitution and a post-event economic impact study and other reports generated in 2016.

In addition to event master planning through the development of a strategic plan, the office is involved in citywide infrastructure upgrades, community development programs, comprehensive public education and interpretive programs, heritage tourism model development, community outreach and coordination, interagency partnerships, national and international relations, program development, event and exhibit design, marketing, and fundraising.
