The Care and Share Committee meets twice a year on the third Friday in April and October at 10:00am in the Financial Services Department Conference Room, first floor of the Financial Services Center, 50 Bridge St.
The three members of the committee are appointed by the three agencies represented: the Northeast Florida Community Action Agency, the St. Johns County Welfare Federation and Catholic Charities. They are each appointed for an indefinite period of time.
The committee is charged with promulgating standards for the payment of water, sewer or garbage bills from the "Indigent Utility Service Account," and to review and approve applicants who meet the specified standards for payment of their bills.
Care & Share offers unique way to help neighbors
St. Augustine’s utility customers have a unique opportunity to give a helping hand all year long to their neighbors in need. The city’s Care and Share Program, is a fund used to help cover the costs of water and sewer service for those in need. Program funds come from utility customers who request a small amount be added to their bills each month. Those donations are deposited into a special account used only to assist others who need help paying their utility bills. Care and Share is truly neighbors helping neighbors.
Any utility customer having difficulty meeting all or part of a month’s payment because of a temporary hardship is eligible to receive assistance from the program administered by Catholic Charities. Those in need contact the agency and, when the need is confirmed, receive a payment voucher for all or part of a month’s utility bill. The voucher is presented to the city water department and the amount is deducted from the account.
Utility customers wishing to donate in the Care and Share Program may sign-up by contacting the city’s customer service department at 825.1037.
